Alright i am sick of these other Canadian chinks act like this.
Tell me, do you add sugar to a whole apple?
Do you add cayenne powder to a Cayenne pepper?
No, these things, whole apple, a cayenne pepper, a steak from a sirloin cut are WHOLE THINGS, that do not NEED much else. You can add caramel drizzle to an apple, you can add hot oil to a cayenne pepper, you can add tex mex steak rub to a sirloin BUT it's NOT NEEDED, a nice, well aged, proper steak is complete in it's flavor profile. You want to cut it up and make a hamburger, then it is no longer complete because the idea of a hamburger is more complex then just meat and bun.
The use of spice and seasoning is needed.
No paprika in goulash is nasty, no creamy milk in mashed potatoes are bland. those are complex and need addition ingredients then to the base. Just like not all steaks are complete, a tough Shank will always be tough and devoid of complex flavors. That is when you NEED rubs and marinades to make it whole
But for things that are already complete and taste good by their own/with minimal additions you do not have to go over bored.
And when you, especially black people, when they go into paprika is just for color, steak by itself taste bland, it's more of an indication they only ever buy cheap, cheap bottom of the barrel stuff, or they have gotten to used to fucking up their tastebuds that they cannot distinguish subtle flavors
