>>17900182>Is it true that psychopaths don't know empathy?>>17900186>>17900190>>17900205>>17900410>Yes , A genuine psychopath does not feel empathyNot exactly.
Basically, for people with Anti-social Disorders, Empathy is a switch you can turn On or Off.
And by default it is on Off.
There was a study made to understand the "lack of empathy" in psychopaths.
What they found is that Empathy is Off by default for Psychopaths, but they can Turn their sense of Empathy "on" if they want to.
Psychopaths were frst shown images of violence, and didn't react nagatively. Then they did the same, but asked he psychopaths to empathize with the victim of violence in the images, and to the scientist's surprise, the psychopaths did feel empathy when expliciely asked to do so.
So it's more of a choice than we thought.
By default they won't feel empathy, but they can feel empathy when they need or want to.
Anti-social refers to Psychopathy and Sociopathy.
There are 2 main differences between the two.
- Psychopaths are BORN so. Psychopaths can control their emotions perfectly.
- Sociopaths are MADE so. Usually through traumatic experience. Sociopaths can control their emotions like Psychopaths EXCEPT for anger, which they hav almos no control over, compared to normal people.
And finally, Psychopaths seem to be a natural phenomenon, and also not Genetic trait.
We've observed that even the most genetically isolated populations, like Pacific Islanders for example, will still have psychopaths emerge out of their population, no matter how small or isolated the populaton is.
There isn't an established "cause" for psychopathy yet. The "How" of psychopathy is quite the scientific mystery.
