It's all optics. If they make it look like they're with the left, they can pacify / appeal to and thus profit off of the people they hate, while also infuriating the right-wingers they secretly actually side with and thus inciting them to action.
It's the only explanation as to why the elites would vocally condemn the people whose votes give them money. It's reverse psychology, they're maintaining power by keeping the protectors of their economic interests angry and impassioned and keeping the threats to that interest complacent.
