when i was a kid, a friend's mum was a violinist in some classical orchestra and one time they went to japen to perform. she brought back these very cool glossy and smooth balls (like marbles, but not transparent) that were crunch and tasted vaguely fishy/seaweedy. does it ring any bell? i've been trying to identify those for like over 20 years
