the word used is νεανίσκος, whereas young man is νεανίας, and is usually applied to someone in his early twenties, but can extend to somebody older who has good genes and still looks like a younger man relative to his age. but the important thing is it is speaking of someone who has fully grown. when using the σκος suffix you are denoting something not having fully grown, but because the word for man is used, it denotes someone at a pubescent age. when do men stop growing? around 16-17. that is your ceiling, the absolute maximum age he can be. when do men begin growing? around 11-12, that is your floor. we might be able to meet in the middle under normal circumcstances, but this is jews we're talking about, and so the floor is more likely. this is a very specific word. and theres a reason this story is editorialized out of future editions of the synoptic Gospel.
