i'd imagine their thought process is either "this can't be that hard, i'll figure it out" or "you probably have to fuck up REAL bad to get fired, i'll have time to learn on the job"
i have friends of friends that got into stable careers that way. they would lie about being able to drive forklifts or whatever, get hired, learn a handful of things, get fired for being horribly incompetent, then repeat until they were able to make the bluff
