Also, addressing an issue with what people think of self-immolation as a whole, there's also the potential psychological damage you're causing on random people who unfortunately have to see you burn alive. A lot of people have acquired serious mental damage over things like that. That's why it's not really a "protest of non-violence". It may not be so physically, but some people are definitely being heavily impacted for the worse, just mentally. It isn't not harming anybody. It is only a potential that somebody would be hurt that way by it, sure, but you going ahead shows that you're willing to risk that. Take it as you will.

I really don't know what people like this expect. Did he think that people would suddenly give up fossil fuel because of him doing this? Did he believe that he would raise awareness, somehow? And what would that achieve? Is it really worth his life, and the impact on whoever possibly cared about him? The answer is no.
