Why would God allow this?

Because without character building and without struggle you are no man.
Without nothing to fight for you are not human.
Imperfection we cause for ourselves in itself is what makes you seek him.
Those who live comfy lives become fat, ugly, faithless, lost and useless.
Without fasting food does not taste as delicious. Without fasting you do not learn to tap into your true hidden strength, which comes from Him.
