Fallout 3 was one of the greatest video games of all time and bordered on great art.
Fallout: New Vegas was one of the most bizarre aberrations ever released by a major studio. It felt like more like a buggy fan-mod than a genuine studio release. Mad, undisciplined ideas litter the game like children't toys. Multiple ammo types to help slow down and complicate combat even more? For no reason, a blue Super Mutant in a dress is now your friend?
Fallout 4 feels like the underachieving brother of Fallout 3. Decisions, consequences, and choices have all been replaced by on-rails gameplay. Clever dialogue has been replaced by yes/no. The base crafting feels like an afterthought. The plot is boring. You get given a suit of power armor in the first hour of gameplay, batteries are too easy to find, and within a few hours you are an unstoppable killing machine.
