i foolishly left it fully strung in the damp garage for like 6 years so the neck is warped to hell. the fix isn't necessarily difficult, but apparently it's really easy to cause more damage if you get too aggressive with it and the severity of the problem means a lot of ground needs to be covered to fix it
i'm probably best off making small adjustments over the course of a week or two if i want to be safe
