It's not the juvenile gore and edge that annoys me, its the incredible writers feint required to keep the threat a threat. Characters can't into basic protection when you would think nobody would show bare skin ever once the infection vector is widely known.
Apparently this was Ennis having a little whinge at Preppers expense, making the claim that you can't prepare for Armageddon because it won't take the shape you like. Unfortunately, his settings antagonists, when they aren't toplel edge incarnate Humans, need writers assistance for every step they take after the first year.
