I'm guessing that's why they mentioned viruses together with them. I do know that antibiotics don't really work on the latter.
How does one get a flatworm? I heard it can come from badly prepared pig meat or from unsanitised water. Speaking of worms, one of my mom's friends is a nurse and volunteered to go to Africa once. And she had this case in which a man felt very sick and at one point threw up a bunch of worms, but these were big so everybody could see them. Then there was another man whose flesh had almost rotted off one of his feet and at one point a few worms started coming out of it.
