i believe blood also holds spiritual energy, and drinking the blood of children lets you see the world through their eyes in some sense as the children have a better connection still with the spiritual than we do. however drinking blood curses us, just like it cursed the earth when it drank the blood of abel, the first violently spilled blood there was, resulting the earth and everything on it being cursed. for the same reason we are meant to let our meat bleed out before eating, so we dont drink that blood and get cursed.
this also is probably the origin of the bloodlible among jews, the origin of cannibalism and vampirism. the stuff about eating the peneal gland and adrenochrome etc. all to get some spiritual insight because they are too lazy to work for it
