technically beer is any fermented beverage from seeds, usually wheat or barley, they are first drenched in water until they sprout, then cooked or straight up introduced to the culture of yeast which turns glucose to ethanol and carbon dioxide (and pectins to methanol)... which is then flavoured with hops (a vine in the same family as cannabis) whose α-acids give the common bitter taste from their oxidation
sake is often reffered to as wine despite being made from rice (grain), but then again it's all treated with koji (mold, not yeast) and then with yeast, so take it as you will

hell theres even a type of fungus which lives inside strawberries which gives them their specific aroma, which is then extracted in form of dna, processed into retroviruses or plasmids which are impregnated into fecal bacteria (e coli) and then processed for industrial production of strawberry essence... kinda neat if you ask me
