there were many words used back then which were all translated into 'jew'
jesus was a judahite which means he descended from judah and thus israel and was an israelite
jews at the time were called judeans cause they lived in judea, but they weren't israelites
this is why jesus says he wasn't sent for them and gets them to admit they were never israelites
so there were different groups and jesus even distinguished himself from the group called jews today
