Makes the whole sequence with the smile much weaker, any good screenwriter would suggest the girl have braces to be an immediate visual payoff for the audience. Part of Jaws character arc is that his metal mouth makes him a weirdo to people, but then the geeky girl has a mouthful of metal too so they fall in love and he chills out in the end, just needed pussy.
Furthermore there's a commercial for Visa that makes a direct reference to the girl having braces.
