Just why she was so eager to gather a group of women around herself wasn’t something Priscilla had given much thought to before this night. She had always told herself that her rise to the top would be faster, easier with an army at her back. And yet she had become so attached to the Angels, girls that should have been little more than tools to her. Even Nikki, who was supposed to be a pet clearly had become someone Priscilla cared about by the time she went missing in the wake of Sapphire’s death. Yes, there was no denying it. She was living out the dreams of her younger self.
Priscilla takes a sip of the champagne. She never imagined she’d learn so much about herself tonight. But she already had what she wanted with the Angels. This, this thing with Carmody and Sola was different somehow. At least, it is now. At first, Priscilla certainly hoped to eventually entice Carmody into the Divine Angels. But now? She still wants that, and Sola too. But yet these new friendships felt different somehow to the ones she had in her mansion.
It’s only as Carmody continues talking and touches Priscilla’s shoulder that she finally figures it out. Priscilla had always felt the need to shower her friends in gifts. Housing the Angels in her mansion. Buying them all lambos. They never asked to benefit from her wealth in such a way. But Priscilla always felt as it was expected to her. As if she’d be… she’d be that girl alone in her parent’s mansion again unless the people around her had material incentives to stay.
But here Carmody was saying as clear as day that it wasn’t about the title, the money or the fame. It was about Priscilla Divine. The person. And even if the others in the mansion feel that way too, it was the first time in Priscilla’s life that someone actually said it.
