There are a couple different standards that were used for the oz in recent history, our quarters [25 cent cupronickel] are at 2 arvodupoious ounces.
I donno how to spell it arvodupious its something french. I unironically discovered this when making the minecraft notes
>avoirdupoisWtf lmao
An aside i wonder if the regular oz as we know it is slightly less because the weight standard was damaged? I read that a while back there was a ship transporting weight standards that was robbed by pirates, they went to sell the [worthless] bronze weights which made their way back to the roght hands eventually. Doubt that standards damage was the reason for the chnge but Ill also add that in the 60's when all the countries agreed upon the inch/metric standard conversion they were able to measure differences in lengths amongst their respective stadard length bars, though the differences were marginally negligible and literally from contact wear.
>length standards There is an X shaped platinum alloy rod with inscribed markings used as a non contact means of measuring, its engravings are akin to a CNC machines glass scales, with regularly spaced intervals read by encoders that detect position.
