we also called it scrap, or melt. Or trash.
You gotta remember way back in the day that silver was worth barely over face value. It wasn't even worth melting unless you had literal tons of the stuff. It's a bit like pennies and nickels today. Yeah, they're worth more than face, but not enough to make it worth melting unless you have tons. They are essentially junk. Trash. Scrap. Melt.
