If a bear is charging at me, I can somewhat be ready for it. If it's an Alex Jones tier interdimensional horror, I can spend my days at least trying to be ready for it. If there's merit to 'j00z eating children for the adrenachrome' meme, than we can band accordingly.
It's how our species thrived this long, by banding together against a threat, whether it's a wooly mammoth, bear, or an army.
We're an incredibly durable species, yet incredibly fragile, but the strongest of us always persist.
We'll fall down a cliff, and either die - or fight for survival. I'd rather fight my way back up and die trying, but at least by knowing I fell down the cliff, I can recognize I need to make a rope first.
