Now, age is only one of roughly a hundred+ factors that you'd have to consider in a detailed analysis on whether or not a specific action A exists in either state (a) or (b). You could either do an autistic calculation for every single action, or you could simply try it out, which usually saves a fortune in time, and conserves your mental health (by not worrying as much). If you can lift weights, then you are per definition not 'too old' to lift weights. If you are physically able to go back to school/training/college, then you are per definition not too old for that. Etc.
tl;dr: Stop worrying about single factors in multifaceted, multifactorial equations, when the option of simply doing 'it' exists.
