You could also dedicate a place to a deity like showing maximum gratitude to a concept such as knowledge and wisdom. I believe in Panentheism that God is within and transcends creation and there are smaller attributes of him in creation.
Even Greeks had more important and less important gods. I see this as a scale of how "strong" or influential these forces are.
Jesus is not a god because man cannot become god like how one cannot become water. Gods control these forces like water and air to contact such a deity of would mean you basically have the manager of that force on your side and he can do something for you in return.
Jesus is a man given old wisdom with great powers can we contact and make deals with Jesus? Is jesus upholding the fabric of reality as Oceanus is? I mean Jesus the person though God being another being.
