On December 25, 1918 Pepelyaev's troops occupied Perm, abandoned by the Bolsheviks, capturing about 20,000 Red Army men, all of whom were released to their homes on Pepelyaev's orders. Due to the fact that the liberation of Perm occurred just on the 128th anniversary of the capture of the fortress of Ismail by Suvorov, the soldiers nicknamed Anatoly Nikolayevich "Siberian Suvorov".
