>>14842174People are generally more laid back and amicable in the villages. But sometimes quarrels, of which the origin has long been forgotten, last for generations. Happier places tend to be those which have kept some life going in them, downtrodden places tend to have more bitter inhabitants with no ambition beyond alcohol. As for the French being cunts, no, honestly not (apart from Parisians, who are understandably bitter). There is a directness/boldness in speech and tone in some regions (e.g. the East, I've noticed) which can seem hostile to foreigners maybe.
