When the first temple was destroyed, it took multiple generations until the 2nd temple was build. Do you think we had simply frozen and stopped doing things during that in between time? Pic related is a theorized timeline - As you can see there was a time prior to temple and a time between the 1st and 2nd. Now we are similarly in a time between 2nd and a future 3rd.
