Vegetable protein simply isn't as good as animal / dairy sources in terms of its amino acid profile, and that matters a lot in bodybuilding. Also many of these <insert fad diet or exercise program here> bodybuilders put on the mass before they started doing it. The average vegan doesn't appreciate the extent to which they have to treat every meal like an expensive scientific experiment, and ends up malnourished with prematurely receding hair and other deficiency issues.
