This honestly should have been done years ago, threads are moving too fast and discussions are dying before they even begin. Before shitty threads baiting for replies can even be deleted they've already hit the posting limit in most cases. 700 replies is great for discussions and it allows people to keep talking about things they find interesting without having to remake threads over and over again. It also gives the mods some breathing room to really check up on the catalog.
As for allowing people to delete their own threads, I'm not so sure why this feature isn't on /pol/. People must have been abusing it somehow but I believe it's necessary if someone makes a mistake or is notified that there's a duplicate thread already up and running I think it's a good feature for keeping the catalog clean.
