don't forget that if Shinji was entirely male he would get along with Asuka fine this is why she rejects him(he reminds her of her mother and his mannerisms are unbefitting for the type of body he has)
This is also why Asuka goes after Ryoji Kaji because he's what Shinji was supposed to be like both when a teenager and later on adult so in a way Asuka is "depraved of" or "cucked" from someone she should be with forever/repopulate humanity hence why both of them are left at the end of everything with Shinji trying to strangle her out of hate but isn't able to go trough with it since he's not a guy/able to get angry that way
I don't remember when was the last time I watched it I think I've watched it only once and things just pop up in my head like "ohh so that's what it meant" randomly but largely there is no meaning to it because it's an anime. Just something imaginary.
