>>2820562The thing is that's not the proper use of the word. The real definition of a "meme" is similar to "inside joke". It's a trend that exists inside of a community that may not make sense to people who are not a part of that given community. For instance, "that fucking cat" is an older 4chan meme. If you posted it on facebook, people probably wouldn't know what the fuck it is, but on 4chan there would be people who understood that it was spam which generally resulted in people saying "IF I SEE THAT FUCKING CAT ONE MORE TIME". It was a meme because of it's internal recognition as something different than just Tom peeking from behind a steel bar, not just because it was a "lol funnay picktur". These days, you take a selfie with a funny face and throw some text on it and people will call it a "meme".
There's also the kids who call popular fads, "memes". This is incorrect, but at least it's a closer use to it's actual definition.
