Alternatively I went to school with CR.E and one of the dudes just straight up never went to salt lake after we got our CDL in state. He just kept telling them Ahh dude I need like 3 more weeks my wife is pregnant and she's being a real bitch. then something like three months later when they sent him a demand letter, so he gave them 80% to fuck off and they took it. Another dude i went to school with could only stomach like five months of otr and told them get me something home daily or I'm walking. When the lawyers came to a agreement he only owed like 800$ so just keep that in mind, the 1 year contract isn't like set in stone. I have 6 years experience now and my sign on bonus from job hopping back and forth from my current company was 15k cash over a year and they had a medical benefit that saved me well over 16k. Those days are gone for now though, Yellow just shit canned a bunch of old crusty dudes that are all trying to get in at UPS or other LTL carriers. If you are just starting out you need some one willing to hire you for peanuts to be home daily or you will have to do 1 year OTR like the rest of us.
All you wanna do your first year is see ball hit ball. Dont worry about making bank, OTR sucks just embrace the suck, go get a 3ds or steam deck to distract yourself. Just get the experience and skills needed to succeed. GL Anon.
