>>12681200yeah it's downright strange.
for example the game is about the protagonist running around trying to save his sister, yonah, so he talks about her a lot. very commonly they'll translate him saying "yonah" as "my sister" or vice versa which is like sure? i guess? but for what purpose? and there's a hundred little things like that all the time.
by far more egregious though is when they just kill the original intention all together. for example one character, kaine, is the edgy loner type and there's a gag that she's a pottymouth. as such a lot of her dialogue gets translated as vulgar tirades which isn't always super faithful to the original dialogue, but japanese curse words are pretty weak in general leading to things like tone mattering a lot more when it comes to cursing so adding in a bunch of shits and fucks is fine generally. except at one point a different character is about to put themselves in danger much to kaine's disapproval, so she starts calling out their name with increasing urgency. this somehow gets translated as "what the fuck do you think you're doing shithead get the fuck back here right now" or something similar
like does it not cross their mind that it could be an intentional choice not to have her cussing in this moment in contrast to her usual demeanor? could go even further and argue that she's at a loss for words altogether, thus only crying out a name repeatedly.
even if the localizers are too braindamaged to put those things together, the dialogue literally is just a name 5 times. why the fuck would you need to change a proper noun standing by itself in the first place. just write it down.
