yeah. they can certainly be plenty helpful if you come to them with an explanation of a specific situation and pointed questions you need solved, but the idea that they'd be able to just look at someone's records then tell them on the spot what classes they should or shouldn't take is absolutely insane.
like when i got advised i was recommended to take a class that literally does not advance my degree at all and i can't blame the professor at all because for 99% of people it's a good recommendation and to realize i'm an edge case you need to consider the way my minor plays out, transfer credits, and implied information from my major that doesn't actually show up on records. it's not particularly hard to untangle it all but it takes a bit of looking around everything to put it all together
