>>11190183dude what the fuck is "becoming his mother's man"
I mean every fucking time we had discussions about that darn antic tragedy it all boiled down to: "playing stupid games tempting fate wins you stupid prizes in self fulfiling prophecies"
all they had to do is either go all out or do nothing
had Jocasta and Laius killed Oedipus or had they kept him none of the events would've happened
had Oedipus gone back to Corinth and did nothing or had he killed himself none of the events would happen
had Oedipus listened to Tiresias and didn't look for the killer- sure, the plague would remain on but the truth woukd eventually died and everybody could've lived on in blissful ignorrance
hell the whole reason oedipus killed laius was stupid as in who gets to go first on a crossroad, they didn't even have cars back in the day what does it matter, sure, I get it's a metaphor as in who gets the first spoils: father or son
hell even the sphinx' riddle is stupid when oedipus couldn't crawl from his pierced and bound ankles that got him the darn name
becoming her mother's man is kind of a hyoerbole as he literally killed her husband, brought on a plague and brought on 4 kids of which 3 would die including Creon's own son
all their tempting of fate got them what they desserve, if you're not ready to fuck up the river by going upstream and if you don't let go and ket the river carry you- you get what you desserve when the river fucks you up when you half assedly go upstream
like before freud I never even heard a lust-oriented interpretation other than the one of tempting fate
