Once upon a time there was a dish called "Pamir Salmon".
Pamir was a historical merchant tall ship sailing around Cape of Good Hope (South Africa) and brought back all sorts of spices and condiments from Asian region, in particular India.
There are no clear recipe regarding "Pamir Salmon" except "boneless salmon, strong dark tea and devilish peppers with salt".
It could have been something like gravlax, except this time the ship cook was left on his own devices and was forced to improvise. It's not clear.
Anyway, "Pamir Salmon" was mentioned to be brilliant despite it's "Devilish Indian peppers".
How I myself found out about "Pamir Salmon" was due to a visit to Porvoo Maritime Museum a few years ago. There was this old logbook opened up in a glass case. And there it was, a short and vague description about "Pamir Salmon" mentioning fish, salt, strong black tea and devilish Indian peppers and how it was a dish worth mentioning despite "devilish Indian peppers". That's it.
I guess now I must just explore like those brave mariners did back then.
