i think it's them being literal sheeple to be honest with you. they get primed by the funny clickbait title and already think companies bad so when the article doesn't directly state "the company is claiming rankings were not manipulated" then they just assume anything the company said is beating around the bush and doublespeak.
it's not about being desperate to get their zingers out there, it's more like a narrative that lets them make their zingers fits into their preconceived notions
