Since you want to get arse blasted over it why does the moon's gravity cause tides with the oceans but not the atmosphere which is considerably closer than the oceans? Should it not bulge out into the vacuum of space and get equalized there too?
What about your lungs? Do you really believe that you can fill them with air overcoming a stronger force of gravity than what would be seen at the edge of space with the weight of the atmosphere pushing down on you too but that the vacuum of space, which is considerably lower than the vacuum you generate to draw breath, is unable to access the atmosphere that is nakedly touching it?
