There is clear difference between Vedic culture and Indian Hindu culture. Vedic people never called themselves Hindus and the current Indian Hinduism and the old Vedic culture are miles apart and clearly can be defined as two different faiths.
Reincarnation was never Vedic belief. Doctrine of avatara & caste system are not Vedic in origin. Taboo of cow slaughter is not of Vedic origin. Vedic culture as practiced in an ancient minority community is therefore distinctly different from current Indian Hinduism.
