>>17619421Dogs have complex social reasoning which cats lack. A dog can reason “the boss doesn’t like that” and simply agrees not to do it. A cat responds to stimulus without the power of reasoning in between so they have to be manipulated by conditioning or by redirecting them with new stimulus. “Don’t scratch the couch” doesn’t work, but putting up cat furniture with toys and catnip on it pulls their attention away from the couch. “Don’t piss there” doesn’t work, but manipulating the cat into thinking it’s territory snd status are secure with an extra litter box and some artificial pheromones does. Because of reasoning a dog is more likely to weigh the benefits and opportunities for a bad behavior, whereas a cat is dumb and can be tricked into not doing it at all because they are pure immediate reaction.
