>>19627289they would have to invent some kind of special camera that applies exposure levels differently across the sensor somehow. so that it could adjust the exposure differently for the planets then for the stars. smartphones do something like this by taking multiple pictures at different exposure lengths and then combining them together. they could do that i suppose, and maybe they do sometimes. plenty of pics of stars and plenty of pics of planets but few with both stars and planets is just how cameras work with exposure settings. there isn't a high priority or budget for dealing with that because it doesn't matter and nobody cares. but now that consumer grade cameras have developed the ability to stitch multiple images at different exposures and stich a sensible final image together out of that then maybe we'll start seeing more images of stars and planets together.
