Nigerians just stuck to sending out phishing emails and never branched out into phone scamming. So, they're not as hated as the Indians.
When India moved away from socialism and liberalized its markets, they struck gold as they had cheap labor force with "almost" neutral accents.
So, a lot of call centers were set up here.
As Internet got cheaper, phone scammers got rampant.
That's when the "don't redeem" incident happened which started the subtle racism.
Then Canada opened up their cheap diploma mills. There was an influx of Indians into Canada who just straight up misused Canadian food banks.
Apart from that, due to housing crisis, a lot Indians became tribalistic, huddle in a single room and cause mayhem.
Go look up "jeet shaker" on 4chan which is pretty funny.
Another one which added fuel to the fire was support for Israel after October 7 incident.
Even though the official policy of India is "recognition of Palestine", who outright hate Muslims anywhere in the world sided with Israel.
And now the "H1B" discussion isn't helping our case anymore. I don't see the hate dying down any time in the future.
