My first job was grounds-keeping at a university in Hawaii. I was 22 and the pay was shit but I just did it to have something because my dad already paid 150k USD to send me to study there. If I were smart, I would've just stayed in Thailand and pocketed that 150k while going to some cheap Thai uni. But I wasn't, I went to Hawaii and it was the most soulless experience of my life. Imagine every American flyover suburb, but it just happens to be on an island in the middle of the ocean.
That's what US annexation did to those poor islanders.
