I don't think admiring plants is exclusively feminine. The founder of taxonomy, Carolus Linnaeus, was male. Many important botanical gardens, like the Kew Gardens and Botanical Garden of Pisa, were established by male kings, partly meant to grow plants that could be used for medicinal and gastronomic purposes, but also partly for the sake of admiring these plants.
Ever heard of the 17th century Tulip mania? That's another case you could count of plants acquiring high value due to its aesthetic value, which was by no means appreciated only by women.
