There was a black guy who joined my class when I was 14. Dude was the only black guy in our class and had a timid personality(probably got bullied before in other schools). Most of the class bullied him, even beat him up for no real reason once. He had no friends, no one to turn to except the principal. So he did, and that's when we all got a talk about how racism is bad.
The bullying got even worse, as expected when an adult intervenes. I didn't partake in the bullying but I also didn't do anything to stop it. The dude switched schools after a semester, don't know what happened to him. There were also a few white people who were like him - timid, insecure - who got bullied and had to go away because of our bullying. We just hated them for being outsiders. On the other hand, there was a brown muslim kid who had hanged out with us since kindergarten was very well liked.
I really feel bad about it. How we bullied away several students just because they weren't born and raised in our neighborhood. And about how I did nothing, said nothing even though I knew it was wrong even then.
