Payola system is fucked, people no longer watch regularly scheduled programming nor do they turn on the radio to hear fresh music. So of course the media manipulators can't force preferences like they used to do. People under 50 barely watch TV. They rarely listen to the radio even when driving.
Superstars no longer exist - the ones you could cite are all simply propped up by one media conglomerate or another. Fake and gay, they won't have staying power. People aren't listening to five year old Miley songs. Taytay died at the superbowl.
The upside is that it's never been cheaper or easier to make your own music at home. People used to do that all the time. It was fun! But then radio and TV came and the traditional family sing-alongs and such were discontinued by and large in favor of, yes, your artificially promoted celebrities. Many were quite good, sure. But can mass media popular culture including rock music really organic?
This is why I like electronic music, it's an actual scene. Nobody outside the scene has even heard of most of the really good and popular electronic musicians besides maybe Skrillex and Aphex Twin. All the good popular electronic musicians got some gear or software and dinked around with it at home until they made music THEY liked. So get crackin, /pol/. Grab something and make some tunes. It's never been cheaper or easier and those times are coming to an end with the new tariff regime.
