>>14153743i think in the past 3 months or so his attendance rate is about 50% for games he's not dming, yeah
yeah, i've just got a permanent chip on my shoulder since i do play and feel wotc is overly conservative in general, so a lot of things feel like they have underutilized potential and aren't as cool as they should be.
there are a few different options, but usually there's a certain range of levels that you're planned to progress though during the campaign. like a dm will tell you to make a level 1 character and expect the campaign to end around level 10 or make a level 7 character and expect to end around 15 or whatever
the big thing to consider in this aspect is that in video games especially have you level up more often with less significance while in d&d you might be level 15 for literal months and almost always have a significant power spike of some sort when you level up.
casters specifically also get exponentially more powerful each level due to how spells work. from levels 1-3 a fighter's damage output basically doesn't change, they just get a few more burst options and durability. from levels 1-3 a wizard goes from having (on average) 28 damage before they're out of spells entirely to instead being able to do 24 damage in one turn and over 100 before they need to sleep. that's why by level 17 they're literally capable of flattening cities
