You can probably get more cheese in one wheel than buying individual slices, or even small blocks. But I could also see the wheels costing more because they're "artisan goods" or whatever. Plus, I'm not sure if they make economical sense for the seller. Does the packaging cost less than packaging the same amount of slices? Maybe, because you're using less wrapping material overall to wrap a wheel than all of its constituent slices. Plus slices often come in those little cardboard boxes, whereas I'd guess the wheels just sit on a shelf somewhere, wrapped in plastic or some plastic-equivalent. Then there's the issue of distribution. It's easier to sell more slices than wheels since slices take up a lot less store space, and people are generally willing to pay for convenience. Just look at the digitization of media. People don't care about ownership, they care about convenience. They'd rather pay to stream than pay to own. But that's a whole nother topic.
