I doubt our level of technology is a threat to an interstellar civilization. Someone is giving a lecture on "observations of interactions with primitive planets on the edge of the galaxy to determine best approaches for evolution of type 1 civilizations" on planet Serpo. Maybe they set aside multiple planets and do different approaches. Like introduce themselves outright to one and just make ghostly appearances with others like ours. That means they might be connected to our internet and collect data for all the ways people react to these things over time. Could be that's why they waited for internet to be advanced enough to show something more substantial like that radar video.
