We knew each other for a long time. Every day we would talk endlessly separated only my a thick layer of electronics and a few hundred miles. None of which stopped us. Days turned into weeks and weeks into years as we went on. Years of toil finally came to fruition. A weekend trip.
I shook with anticipation waiting for him at the airport. I'd never met someone like this before and his behavior online implied they weren't too keen on it either. He's late. Probably got lost out of the terminal. I wait filling my ash tray to the brim trying to keep my nerves down. Finally he arrives. I know it's him because of the equipment on his head. His glorious silky brown hair has been elegantly tamed to make this rough lad look almost professional. Stepping into my car he has a worried expression.
"N-nice to finally meet you Normie..." he says struggling to get comfortable. I say nothing and take him to what will be his hotel for the weekend. The ride is long. An hour of traffic and a dead quiet car ride wasn't setting up for a good first impression. Arriving at my modest abode he hesitates at the door.
"Something wrong?" I ask him worried.
He pauses.
"No."
I don't believe him but I let him inside anyways. He notices the modest conditions I live in almost looking surprised. As I close the door he takes a seat on the couch. Stiff as a board hands folded in his lap. It was at this moment I started to have doubts about all of this. Before he was so eager to be exploring the world around him and everything in it. What happened to that young man?
I push the thoughts off to fix myself a drink. A handle of rum should be enough to get my mind off of everything. As I try to break ice into my glass I hear him turn on the television. Fox news. cont.
