>>5962320You've got the view that's shared by very few in the pharmacological community. In America they throw benzos and Ritalin at anyone who asks for them. In the 90's if you had a particularly hyperactive child they immediately got you on meds and convinced you it was for the better. This oversaturation of psychotropics on the American people lead to the entire country being dominated by medications they didn't really need. You've got depression? Meds no therapy. You've got a hyper child? Meds nothing else. You got anxiety? Meds no therapy. It's disgusting really.
Many of the psychiatrists prescribing these medications are also strung in with corporate interests. They push the meds they can sell the hardest because they get kick backs from the company. Because of this I'm as well a skeptic of most mainstream psychotropic use.
>I'm skeptical towards psychiatry in it's wholeEasy there swede I'm danger close to a psychiatrist with a degree in Psych. and I was taking many courses in pharmacology. I agree that most of psych. is a joke and no better than self help books but sometimes you need neurologists backing your claims to get meds. The problem with psych. is mostly the lack of physical proofing of concept. Usually they just find enough information through DBT to "prove" their theory and green light medication.
Methylphenidate is something I think should be removed from the market except in the case of certain extreme disorders that can be backed by neurology. Unfortunately America is obsessed with prescribing their kids legal meth to calm them down so they don't have to deal with them.
There should be more proofing being done before medication is prescribed as well as a proper battery of testing and therapy before medications are prescribed.
>anti-psychotics to someone suffering from insomniaThat's barbaric. Those drugs in the wrong system can cause a lot more harm than good. As someone who has been prescribed Risperidone I know the long term effects.
