As you might know, the late XIXth and early XXth centuries saw Argentina rise from an anarchic and loosely-allied confederation led by regional warlords to one of the richest countries on Earth. This was done mostly through economic liberalism (non-secret ballots ensured that left wing parties had absolutely no chance of gaining significant power) and plenty of British investment.
In 1930 we, like the rest of the world, had to endure the blunt of the Great Depression. This led to a military coup, the first in this country's history, which deposed president Hipólito Yrigoyen and tried to forcefully industrialise the country in order to replace imports. From that point forward we were never quite as prosperous as we had been, but we were still undoubtedly a regional power. That is, until 1946, when Juan Domingo Perón came to power. Perón was an open admirer of Italian Fascism, adopted many similar attitudes and through a mixture of populism, personalism and excessive public spendings left a scar that this country has never recovered from. Today most of the country still adheres to his ideology because they equate it with free stuff.
Pic related, it's a water pumping station we built in 1894 just because we could
TL;DR: Don't do cheap fascist knock-offs, kids
